| Where I've Been |
|||
|
I was born in Teaneck, New Jersey, but grew up in Huntington Beach, California, where my friends and I would bicycle to the beach most summer days for afternoons of body surfing and people watching. After high school, uncertain of what I wanted to do in life, I spent years as a perpetual student, meandering through as many colleges as Sarah Palin: The University of California at Santa Cruz, Orange Coast Community College, The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA (B.A. Liberal Arts); the University of California at Irvine (B.A. Russian, cum laude); and finally The Ohio State University (M.A. Russian). At OSU I also picked up teaching certificates in English, Russian, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Library Media. |

| What I've Taught |
|||
| While doing graduate
work at OSU, I taught ESL and enjoyed it very much. Teaching foreign
students was like traveling around the world every time I stepped into
the classroom. I continued teaching ESL at Bexley when I was hired
in 1991. Eventually, though, I grew tired of running around to
all five Bexley schools everyday. A friend suggested librarianship
as a career change. I was such a dunce not to think of it earlier! I love being a librarian. I enjoy helping students with research, recommending good reads, and keeping up with technology. It sounds corny, but as a librarian, I feel like I'm performing a valuable civic duty--doing my small part to contribute to a democratic society by promoting reading, research, and life-long learning. |

When I'm not working... |
|||
| I enjoy spending time with my family: my son Sam, a 16-year-old sports enthusiast, and my wife, Amy, a nationally board certified special education teacher with Columbus City Schools. Not surprisingly, I devote some free time to reading. I'm currently reading The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls.
